Flying home on a Cebu Pacific piso-fare... NOT!

I would have loved to fly back home on a piso-fare. After months of planning, I am finally heading back to my hometown, in Zamboanga, but hours of browsing on Cebu Pacific's website months before proved futile; it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

Cebu Pacific is one of the country's commercial air carriers that sells tickets at a fraction of the cost, sometimes at just one peso (plus taxes it totals to about 100), but the gist there is you have to get your tickets at least three months before your scheduled flight and the sale is available in one to two days or till seats are available. But my fare is far from one peso! It's almost 3k! And I am flying on an alternative carrier, Air Philippines.

Air Philippines is gearing up to be Cebu Pacific's archnemesis when it comes to affordable airfares. I saved about a few hundred pesos choosing Airphils over Cebu Pac for my flight tomorrow, and they have weekly promos with travel dates in about a month's time only. I dunno why taxes differ between the two though.

Here are some tips on how to get promo fares:

1. Check the website regularly: Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines.

2. Sign up via email or even follow on Twitter to receive regular updates.

3. HAVE a credit card (or a Bancnet account for Cebu Pac). This is very handy to buy and get the seats as they are on a first-come-first-seve basis.

4. If you happen to see a promo fare (like for one-peso airplane ticket), BUY IT whenever the date and wherever the location is. You can always go on an adventure!

But the ticket in my possession, whether one peso or 3K, is not that important now. What is important is I'm flying home, after about three years. I am so looking forward to it.
