GMA: Greetings Earthlings

I make it a habit to watch the nightly news on the boob tube to keep me abreast with what's happening in this country of ours, as well as recaps and updates from around the globe. And you know just how the the local media likes reporting on anything, I mean any scoop and material that they could get their hands on, like the president of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo herself, appearing on a page of a Marvel comics called Secret Invasion.

"The Earth is now part of the Skrull empire," that is her infamous line. This probably makes you think that she is up to no good and has her own little agenda kept clandestinely swimming in her mental juices , especially if you know who the Skrulls are and what their ultimate goal for Planet Earth is--extraterrestrial shapeshifters who believe our world is rightfully theirs. Well, I'll not refer to it as her (GMA) as a Skrull just used the likelihood of the president for their empire's ulterior interest. But it's interesting to note that she has been included to appear alongside famous people like McCain, Obama, Oprah, Tom Cruise, et al. The president's appearance likely made you ponder, too, that maybe a Filipino is behind this, camouflaging this as a vehicle for expressing political bugaboos. But Leinil Francis Yu, who a comic collector referred to as the Pac-Man of comics and who crafted this series, said that (and I'm paraphrasing) GMA being there is not politically tainted. It’s just a nod to fellow Pinoys. In a way it is a hats-off kind of nod, and knowing that the president is a comics character and an ET too, how newsworthy is that?

We recently saw how she clearly had anger management issues the other day with how she handled the unpreparedness of her staff during a televised warning to renegades currently wreaking havoc in parts of Mindanao, and now onto something lighter seeing her gracing a page of an international publication. I wonder what I'll see next when I turn on the telly to catch the news. She in a bikini? D'oh.
