David vs. David vs. Carly(?)

Now I know why the hype is with David Cook’s performance on Mariah Night (not really sure if that was what the Top Seven AI performance was called). He stays true with the genre that he knows best, turning a pop, rnb-ish song (and a Mimi at that!) to a cool rock track that is slowly finding its way to the hearts of people, with it becoming the most downloaded song on iTunes this week. That, and the insatiable dose of LSS it brings.

Before there were 24 of them AI hopefuls, I was rooting for either Carly or Michael to win. But with the latter booted out and Carly’s nerves and her inability to project the true performer in her (she really will do great as a rocker lady, like Cristina of Lacuna Coil or Sharon of Within Temptation or even Amy Lee of Evanescence), the road to AI stardom seems to be laid out this early for David Cook. The other David (Archuleta), even if he has a strong fan base, I feel that he is not ready to be a record-selling artist yet (in my opinion). If he does win, good for him, but I will not be surprised if he turns out like Taylor Hicks or Ruben Studdard. (Am I just being pessimistic at the expense of the Other David?) Now if Cook, on the other hand, does not win, who cares? He will still make it big, like Daughtry. So win or lose, he still wins. Lucky you! Be that as it may, we still have weeks to count till the final showdown between Carly or Cook, err… whoever the majority of Americans who watch “Idol” vote to be the top two contenders.

Stream and download (if you know how to in Multiply) the studio version of “Always Be My Baby” here.
