Pinoy Thriller

We have a Pinoy video circulating on the net that is currently making a BIG buzz internationally. It's from the inmates of CPDRC, a correctional facility in Cebu City, who showcase their dance prowess ala Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act), Village People (YMCA), Masculados (Jumbo Hotdog—Mwheheh), and their now world famous "Thriller." As of writing, it has about 2,318,940 views, 5261 comments, and favorited 12951 times on the most surfed website on Earth, YouTube. And that’s after only a week of uploading. This even found its way to international media big houses like ABC News and BBC.

It’s flabbergasting though that some people would diss something as admirable as this, even calling one of the star dancers acting a female character “horrible” and “the ugliest girl i have ever seen” (I call this blatant ignorance). The dedication and discipline put by these inmates to pull off such a feat is no joke. The dancing maybe compulsory to these orange-clad men, but heck, this is a routine exercise turned up a notch.

I saw yesterday how the CPRDC dance routine came about thru GMA’s “Kapuso mo, Jessica Soho” and it made me proud to be Pinoy again. After Team Pilipinas’ disappointing loss to Iran in the FIBA Asia Championship 2007 - The 2008 Olympics Qualifier which was also shown yesterday, seeing “Soho” featured the men in CPRDC brought a smile to my face. Great job.
